This week, both the men and women’s tennis teams will get to play on our own campus courts and have home court advantage for the first time this entire year. The women will be facing the University of Texas San Antonio and St. Edwards. The men will have Tyler Junior College and Trinity University on campus Friday, however, they will then travel to Lubbock on Saturday to face Texas Tech and University of the Southwest.

The women are coming off a weekend where they were dominant against Texas- Permian Basin sweeping them in team points 7-0 and not losing a single match while also doing the opposite against a very tough team in Texas Tech. The women will look to take advantage of being home for their next matches and not taking the usual long bus ride against UTSA and St. Edwards.

“My mindset going into Wednesday is to focus on playing aggressive and consistent,” senior Kaysie Hermsdorf said. “We are playing two teams that we know we can do well against but our first match will be harder for us if we aren’t in the right mental state. We have to go out prepared and ready to be challenged. As a team we feel we have a good chance in winning both matches Wednesday but we are preparing ourselves with good practicing skill wise and also being ready to compete.”

The men will come into this weekend with momentum coming off of a sweep against four schools last this weekend. Their team scores included a 5-2 victory over Air Force, a 6-1 win over Metro state, a 7-0 sweep over Northern Colorado, and an impressive upset against UC Davis who was ranked 53rd in the nation. The men will certainly enjoy the home court advantage this Friday for the first time and will also look forward to the challenge of traveling to Lubbock on Saturday.

“I think ACU is ready for this weekend,” freshman Josh Sheehy said. “We get to play our first 2 home matches and it will be great to have a home crowd supporting us. It’s going to be a competitive match in Lubbock because we’re facing one of the best teams in the nation. Everyone has high confidence right now after coming off a great Colorado trip and we believe anything can be done. My focus is to keep putting everything I have into these matches because that’s what it takes to win at this level.”

The women will begin their matches on Wednesday here on campus against UTSA at 11:45 A.M. and will face St. Edwards at 4 P.M. The men will begin on campus against Tyler Junior College at 3 P.M. and will match up against Trinity College at 7:30 P.M. On Saturday in Lubbock, they will play Tech at 3:30 P.M. and University of the Southwest at 7 P.M.
