This past weekend the ACU women’s tennis team took a long trip to the Indiana Winter Invitational and a match with Butler. However, it didn’t seem to phase them as they came out with multiple victories. The whole women’s team, with the exception of freshman Leah Davis, made the trip up to Indiana and all participated in at least one singles and doubles match.
In singles competition, the women started off well in the Invitational getting four victories over opponents from Indiana University and Marquette University. Junior Erin Walker defeated Courtney Hebard from Marquette 6-3, 6-3, while senior Nada Marjanovic defeated Diana Tokar from Marquette 2-6, 6-1, 10-7.
In their lone match with Butler Monday, they were very impressive as they swept the singles matches, with very convincing victories, 6-0.
“I’m so proud of our team for putting in so much work these past few weeks and I’m glad that we could all be rewarded for our hard work in Indiana.” Henry said. “Playing three consecutive days with tough matches is never easy but we all kept fighting each day. Sweeping Butler gives us all a lot of confidence walking into our upcoming matches.”
For doubles, the Wildcat pairings were scattered in the Invitational and it worked well as they pulled out nine doubles victories over competitors from Indiana, Marquette, and Wright state.
Senior Kaysie Hermsdorf was successful as she was involved in five of the nine teams with doubles victories as well as sophomore Lucile Pothier with four. Against Butler, the women swept the doubles competition as well with three wins to none.
Walker/Williams defeated their opponents 6-1, Hermsdorf/Pothier defeated their opponent 6-3, and Andrea Crook/Marjanovic beat their opponents 6-2.
“I think we all played in a good spirit and well represented ACU against three good teams at the Indiana tournament.” Pothier said. “Our level against Butler University was great and I am very optimistic for the next coming matches. The level of tennis produced by our team (even if we did not all win our matches) during these tree days of competition will reserve us an interesting and exciting future for our team.”
The women’s next match ups will be in Dallas Tuesday, January 26th as they take on Dallas Baptist University at 12 P.M. and Southern Methodist University at 5 P.M.
