The men’s tennis team traveled up to Tulsa, Oklahoma this weekend to face Oral Roberts University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The match ups were two different stories as ACU played close with ORU and swept Southern Illinois, but they pulled out two team wins regardless.

In singles against Oral Roberts, the Wildcats split the victories as they won three out of six matches. However, in their matches with SIU, the men completed a clean sweep, six matches to none.

Standouts for ACU in singles included freshmen Josh Sheehy and Sebastian Langdon and sophomore Hunter Holman as they won both their singles matches.

Sheehy, last week’s Southland Conference Player of the Week, was able to beat his competition from ORU 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, and SIU, 6-4, 6-4, giving him his fourth victory in a row as the No. 1 player for the Wildcats.

Holman came away with 6-4 and 7-5 victories over Oral Roberts, while getting two more wins against SIU, 6-0, 6-3.

Finally, Langdon finished ORU with a score of 7-5, 6-2, and a 6-4 win against SIU in the first round and was unfinished in the second round.

“It feels great to have this success but it hasn’t come easy,” Sheehy said. “At the top spot, there are no easy matches and you have to work for every point. I’m really proud of how our team is doing. Everyone is playing great and we do an amazing job of supporting each other on the court. Our team can only keep getting better from here.”

In doubles, ACU took two wins out of three matches against both schools. Sophomore Henry Adams and Sheehy came away with a 6-1 victory, and sophomore Brad Gleason with Langdon squeaked out ACU’s second doubles victory of the afternoon, at 7-6.

Senior Jason Proctor and sophomore Paul Domanski fell in the second seeded match, 6-2.

“I couldn’t be happier with my teams performance this weekend, everyone battled in each and every match and we were rewarded with victory for our efforts,” Langdon said. “I love how hard my team played and couldn’t ask for any different group of guys to play with.”

The Wildcats team score against ORU was 4-3 and 6-0 against SIU. The men’s next match ups will be in Colorado Springs on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30.
