Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams played at away tournaments this weekend, with the men at New Mexico University for the Balloon Fiesta Invitational and the women in Dallas for the SMU Invitational. Both tournaments started Friday and ended Sunday.
Langdon claimed 3rd place in singles while Proctor secured 4th place. The doubles pairs for the weekend were Langdon/Lawson and Proctor/Domanski. Proctor and Domanski earned 3rd place in doubles while Langdon and Lawson lost early in the doubles tournament.
“This weekend was really good,” Langdon said. “As a team we all competed really hard and fought each match with as much heart as I’ve seen any single person play with. I was really proud of how we did in the tournament as a whole and I hope this year continues like this tournament.”
The women played in Dallas and brought the whole team to participate in the tournament. Strong performances in singles came from Lucile Pothier, Ansley Bourman, Whitney Williams and Nada Marjanovic. Pothier was able to win two of her three games in the Mustangs singles bracket, winning over competition from TCU and ICW, which made her the consolation bracket champion.
Bourman also beat competition from ICW and UTEP in the Dallas singles bracket to earn the consolation championship.
Williams made it to the consolation semi final in the blue singles bracket after beating competition from UTEP by a score of 6-0, 6-3, before she was beat by an opponent from Rice. Marjanovic also was able to make it to the consolation semi final in the black singles bracket by beating an opponent out of Arkansas 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, before losing to a competitor from Kansas state.
The doubles pairs included Kaysie Hermsdorf/Erin Walker, Pothier/Williams, Marjancovic/Boarman, and Jordan Henry/Leah Davis. Pothier and Williams won their first match against a pair from NSU and made it to the winners bracket before they lost to a team from UTA.
“This tounament was very tough with some of the best schools in our region,” said Williams. “It was really awesome to see ACU competing at such a high level. Overall I am really proud with how we competed as far as attitude and the fight everyone showed. It was just a great weekend of tennis. I am really looking forward to our next tournament in College Station for the Regional tournament.”
Both teams will have their annual varsity vs. alumni matches this Friday. The next tournament for the Women will be the ITA Texas regionals in College Station beginning October 22 while the men’s regionals will be in Houston starting October 24.
