The Wildcat’s men and women’s tennis teams will travel to three separate tournaments this weekend held by Air Force, New Mexico State, and the Midland Racquet club to open their fall season.
For the men, senior Jason Proctor, junior Nico Agritelley, sophomore Henry Adams and freshman Joshua Sheehy will represent ACU in Midland. In doubles, Agritelley and Sheehy will be one team, while Proctor and Adams make up the other.
The Midland Invitational is a prestigious tournament that has brought together many competitive schools, including Baylor, Kansas, Pepperdine, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Christian University, and Rice.
One of the biggest highlights of the tournament to occur for ACU was in 2010, when assistant coach Julia Mongin, then sophomore, beat six different Div. I opponents to win the championship as an unseeded division two player.
The rest of the men will make their way to Las Cruces, New Mexico to play in the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational, in which the doubles players will be senior Marco Bensley and sophomore Paul Domanski, sophomore Hunter Holman and freshman Sebastian Langdon, sophomore Brad Gleason and freshman Cole Lawson, and senior Brandon McCarty and junior Andrew Hutchinson.
ACU has been to this tournament every year and has had high accomplishments including Gleason, who finished third in his bracket last year, and Proctor, who won the consolation final. Doubles pair Bensley and Domanski went 3-2 placing fourth last year.
The women’s roster will be traveling to Colorado Springs for the Air Force Invitational. The doubles players representing will include sophomores Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams, senior Nada Marjanovic and junior Ansley Boarman, and freshmen Jordan Henry and Leah Davis.
The ACU women used this weekend last year to compete at the Oklahoma Classic. Marjanovic and Pothier each won three matches in singles in Norman to lead the Wildcats, while Walker and Pothier won twice in reaching their draws third-place matches.
