This weekend did not end well for the lady ‘cats. They suffered two heart breaking losses to two Southland opponents: Houston Baptist and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
The losses dropped the wildcats to 5-9 on the season and 1-5 in conference. The wildcats forced the Houston Baptist game to 5 sets but couldn’t quite finish losing 15-13 in the final set.
ACU may have suffered a tough loss, but they left with a few positive notes. The wildcats recorded a season high 19 blocks and Jennifer Loerch led both teams with 20 kills. Mock thinks the recent success of blocking can be attributed to their focus on it during practice.
“It’s part of our everyday practice, blocking is a very difficult skill to perfect but it’s a constant in our gym and the girls are comfortable with it.” Jennifer Loerch also felt the team was what made her so successful in the two games. “It was definitely my team we had good passes and I was being fed off good sets and they made it easy for me.”
The second game of the weekend matched up ACU with one of the Southland’s best in Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The wildcats stuck with Corpus Christi for 3 sets and played well against the Islanders but couldn’t finish in multiple sets. ACU did receive great performances from Madison Hoover who led all players with 25 digs.
They also received a great game from Sarah Siemens who recorded 26 assists on the day. The ‘cats are a little over halfway through their first season in the Southland.
“In regards to the team’s play theirs lots of positives in regards to wins and losses I am not happy because there are 4 or 5 matches we are capable of winning.”
The wildcats are returning for three games in Moody, which should lift their play to another level as they are 2-1 at home this season.
