The Wildcats fresh off their upset of Texas Tech traveled to New Mexico for the Comcast Lobo Invitational this weekend.

The Wildcats first game was unsuccessful as they fell to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 3-0.

“I think we learned a lot last weekend,” senior Madelyn Robinett said. “We talked about how we need to focus on every game.”

The lumberjacks withstood two phenomenal sets by the ‘Cats, 25-19 and 26-24 and went on to dominate the third with a 25-11 score.

ACU would continue to struggle as they fell the following day to New

Mexico 3-0. The defeat put the ‘cats under .500 and 3-4 for the season.

“We had trouble adjusting but we got better as the weekend went,” senior Caley Johnson said. “Their hitters where really strong and our blockers did a good job on picking those up.”

Fortunately, the weekend was not over and ACU would beat their final opponent Towson 3-1.

The hard fought victory that went down to the wire on each set.

Johnson helped the team to victory by digging out 17 attacks.

Sophomores Corrie Reeder and Jennifer Loerch also contributed with 28 combined kills.

“We have shown that we can come back from anything and not be afraid to play and finish strong,” Robinett said. “We continued to play hard and we got better and better as the weekend went.”

ACU volleyball will look to improve as they begin conference play on Thursday against Central Arkansas.

“It’s a whole new ballgame facing teams you’ve never played,” Johnson said. “I think we will play well and offer a challenge. It’s a new opportunity and we’re looking to prove ourselves to these new teams.”
