Wednesday, the tennis team took on their LSC (Lone Star Conference) rival, Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.

After last week in Las Vegas, the men’s team found no luck, and suffered their fourth straight loss.

The Wildcats were frazzled without team number No. 1 Hans Hach, who did not play during the match. Everyone was moved up a spot before facing the mustangs.

The team won 3 of 6 of their singles matches and only one doubles match at these new positions.

With the shift in play positions, Guilherme Gesser was the third person to play in the No. 1 spot this season, joining Hach and Borja Cortes.

Unfortunately, Gesser didn’t make a shining debut as No.1. He was defeated by Luke Joyce 6-7, 1-6.

Freshman Nicklas Wingord was moved to the number two position and challenged Kyle Davidson. He came out victorious 1-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Along with Wingord, Alfredo Desiati and Marco Bensley were triumphant in their singles matches. Desiati facing Kacper Boborykin 6-4, 6-3 and Bensley taking on Austin Crawford 7-6, 6-3.

Duo Bensley and Kyle Plum was the only doubles point, defeating the pair of Boborykin and Tomas Grejtak 8-2.

The men’s team could not do enough to clench the win, and fell 4-5 to the mustangs.

The team has been on a rocky road for most of the season, with both Cortes and Desiati still trying to recover from injuries that occurred earlier in the season.

The women’s team was not threatened by Midwestern State as they served up a 6-3 victory.

The team won 5 of 6 singles matches and 2 of 3 doubles matches.

While Laura Mongin was out with an injury, her sister , Julia Mongin remained focused and defeated Taylor Coffman 6-1, 6-0.

Micah Hermsdorf faced off aganst Sarita Adhikary 7-6, 6-0.  Hannah Kelley defeated Kendra Casey 6-0, 6-1.

In Mongin’s absence, Julia was paired with Nada Marjanovic for the first time. The duo took on Kayla Casey and Madeline Schorlemmer winning, 8-4.

This weekend the women’s team will match up against the University of Texas- El Paso and the University of the Texas Permian Basin here in Abilene and will return to San Antonio to face St. Mary’s University and the University of Texas San Antonio.

The men’s team will head to Austin to match with UT before traveling to San Antonio to join the ladies in facing St.Mary’s and UTSA.

The men’s match against UT will be televised live on the Longhorn Network on Saturday at 1 p.m. and again at 9 p.m.
