The men’s tennis team dropped a match to St. Edward’s on Saturday. Before the 4-5 loss, ACU was on the verge of claiming the No. 2 ranking in the Division II South Central region. ACU still holds the No. 3 regional ranking behind St. Edwards and Incarnate Word.

Before the St. Edward’s defeat in Abilene, the team completed a tournament in Birmingham, Ala. ACU won only two matches against Stillman College (8-1) and Samford (4-3). The Wildcats rounded out the tournament with losses to Auburn-Montgomery, West Florida and Valdosta State.

The men’s tennis team currently has a 13-11 record.

The women’s team also had some tough luck in Birmingham. The Wildcats won the first game against Stillman College (9-0) but lost the remaining four matches of the tournament.

The women did considerably better against St. Edwards, however, downing the Hilltoppers 9-0 on Saturday.

The Wildcats remain undefeated at home while boasting a 21-7 overall record. Women’s tennis is No. 1 in the Division II South Central rankings according to itatennis.com.

The next game for both teams will be April 14; the men’s team will stay in Abilene, and the women’s team will travel to Lawton, Okla., to go toe to toe with the Aggies.

The game against Cameron will be the final game of the regular season. The next tournament will be the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament April 23-24 in Oklahoma City.

The NCAA Division II National Championship tournament is May 12-15 in Orlando, Fla.
